Addictions...

Fox news reports that X-Files star David Duchovny is in rehab for sexual addition.

I have to be honest, I get pretty irked if the guy I am with peruses pornography. My boyfriend insists that Playboy, for example, has great reading material and most men I know don't consider Playboy pornography. It still makes me uncomfortable. I refuse to have such magazines in the house especially with my little girl around.

But then on the other hand, I love painting the human form. I have plenty of books on the naked form and have been to art classes with a nude model. So why am I so uncomfortable with Playboy magazine? Maybe it's becuase the men and women in my books aren't sprawled out with their genitals exposed?

I used to think that sexual addiction started with porn magazines and exacerbated with internet porn hence the no porn magazine in the house. It reminds me of the "Lays Potato Chip". You can't eat just one. Yesterday, I bought a small bag of "Lays Barbecue Chip" promising myself to eat just 10 chips because the whole bag would be over 350 calories. Within 5 minues, I had gobbled it all up. It's tooo good! Although I do remember reading that MSG is addictive and I think they put MSG on chips.

I know porn magazine lying around the house does not cause sex addiction or we'd have more men/women seeking therapy. I am curious if doctors can really cure sex addiction.... how do you terminate unhealthy thoughts?

  • I thought it was weird that it was even made public -- that's just something that I don't think the average person needs to know about. I think the difference between your drawings is that you're not trying to "get off" on them, but are just appreciating the human form in it's natural state/beauty. I doubt most men get turned on when they're at an art museum and see a painting -- but seeing it in those mags or online are completely different.
