Guilty Pleasures - Star Trek

I love Star Trek!.. There I have said it. I can't get enough of Captain James T Kirk, Spock and his humanistic counterpart, Bones.
"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor not a ..insert profession here...!"

Although, I grew up on Star Trek, the tv show, I never saw the movies. I rented Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn after hearing it referenced in my other favorite sitcom, Seinfeld. It was the episode at George's fiance's funeral after she had died from contaminated glue. Jerry apparently made references to Kirk's speech at Spock's funeral on "Wrath of Kahn".

Ricardo Montalban, his heaving chest, was a great vindictive villain!! I really liked it and proceeded on to Star Trek III: The Search for Spock the following week. Unfortuantely, I had just re-watched "Mystic River" with Sean Penn just days before.
"IS THAT MY DAUGHTER IN THERE?"

Penn's rage was mesmerizing and I was on my knees holding back the tears. So while watching "The Search for Spock", I was hoping for the same rage........... but alas it was anticlimatic and pretty weak.

But it's onward bound to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

  • "Search For Spock" is kinda weak. Especially after "Wrath Of Khan," which is a modern masterpiece of a sci-fi film. "Voyage Home" is pretty good, if you haven't seen it yet.
