"You Fit Into Me"

You fit into me
like a hook into an eye

a fish hook
an open eye

--Margaret Atwood

I first came across this poem back in college in a Creative Writing class. The timing was just perfect as my highschool sweetheart of two years had just broken up with me. The pain was excruciating as described in this poem. It has taken me years to find this poem because I thought it was written by Emily Dickinson. Coincidentially, I had a dream about him last night - replaying the night he broke up with me... kind of eerie...

  • Double ouch there! Death and breakups are about the only good reasons why denial is a good thing. I just bury that shit as deeply as I can. But then, my dreams betray me sometimes.

  • THat sounds painful. What spurred on the dream? Anything going on?

  • Yikes! Maybe the search dredged up the memory? You should look for a limerick...

    Merry new year!
